Organic Dragon Well - Loose Leaf Tea

Dragon Well Green Tea (also referred to as Long Jing or Lung Ching) is the most famous tea beverage in China and is frequently presented as a National Gift to visiting heads of state.

In the case of our exceptional single-origin No. 54 Organic Dragon Well, it comes from the mountainous terrain of West Lake, Zhejiang Province, which a protected destination of origin where the Chinese have been growing their national drink for thousands of years. The mild overcast climate with consistent rain allows the leaves here to preserve more theanine, which helps give Dragon Well its distinctive sweet and mellow flavour.

In spring, the youngest tender buds are picked from the Jiu Keng cultivar and, following pressing, the organic tea leaves are pan-fried in a wok. The result is an emerald-green, fragrant flat-shaped leaf that produces a beautiful light yellow-green infusion that green tea lovers recognise as the mark of a top-quality Dragon Well.

The health benefits of this Chinese tea

It is thought that drinking Dragon Well green tea can help aid the body's digestive system and decrease inflammation. This is due to the high concentration of catechins (green tea antioxidants) that are found in the leaf, which is shown to increase the bodies metabolic rate. For those looking for a fat burner, this Organic Dragon Well loose leaf could be an excellent choice, especially so as these leaves have a high level of Vitamin C and amino acids.

The region where this green loose leaf tea is grown

West Lake Region: True Long Jing tea comes from the West Lake district on the outskirts of Hangzhou in Zhejiang. The pinyin for West Lake is XiHu, so you may see some Long Jing referred to as Xihu Long Jing. This area is a designated protected zone.

Within the West Lake area are the four original Long Jing tea villages of which the best known are Xifeng (aka Shi Feng or Lion Peak) and Mejiawu. The best quality Long Jing is generally accepted as growing in the area of Xifeng.
